Life Themes

Each of us carries unique gifts and wounds that shape how we see the world. Healing our wounds and cultivating our gifts are both part of living a fulfilled life.

Pablo Picasso once said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Often, though, engaging with our gifts means we must first examine old hurts that block us from offering our full selves. Healing takes gentleness, patience, and love — but it also takes courage to proceed.

In therapy, we may explore how your woundedness prevents you from sharing your gifts or how your gifts can help heal old wounds. Sometimes, wounds themselves can transform into gifts, offering depth and meaning. Over time, patterns emerge — “life themes” that resonate with your authentic self and purpose.

As Frederick Buechner wrote: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

What are your themes? How do you offer your gifts? What within you is asking for healing? I would be honored to accompany you in that search.

EMDR therapy can be particularly helpful when recurring life themes are rooted in unresolved trauma. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward change.
